About Me

I was born and raised in Beirut during the chaos of the Lebanese civil war, a time that shaped me in many ways. While the world outside was unpredictable, my parents created a haven of art and culture at home. They took me to plays, classical concerts, and filled my hands with books that sparked my imagination. Drawing became my escape and my passion—a way to create new worlds and tell stories that couldn’t always be spoken.

After graduating with a degree in Painting and Sculpting from the Lebanese University, I started my artistic journey painting murals and trompe l’oeil designs. Those years taught me the beauty of detail and technique, lessons I carried into my work as a freelance illustrator. In 2004, my path changed when a publisher spotted my drawings and asked me to illustrate my first children’s book. Since then, I’ve illustrated over 48 books, each project a new adventure that lets me explore humor, emotion, and culture.

I don’t believe in sticking to one style. Art is about discovery, and every book I illustrate is an opportunity to try something new. Whether working with acrylics, watercolors, or digital tools, I aim to bring each story to life with rich detail and authenticity. I also find deep inspiration in my surroundings—my chaotic, beautiful Beirut, my childhood memories, and the deep cultural roots and heritage of the Arab world.

Teaching has also become a significant part of my life. In a charming old Lebanese house I’ve turned into a studio, I run workshops for aspiring illustrators, workshops I also try to bring to several parts of the world. Sharing what I’ve learned and watching others break through their creative blocks or struggles fills me with joy. Through initiatives like "Joozoori," I’ve had the privilege of working on projects that celebrate Arab heritage and connect with children across the world.

For me, art is more than just images on a page—it’s a way to build bridges between cultures, generations, and hearts. I hope my work inspires others to see the beauty in small details and the magic in everyday stories.
